Fairland Aquatic Center, Ontario, Canada
When designing the Fairland Aquatic Center located in Ontario, Canada, the architect’s challenge was to design a visually-appealing yet sanitary swimming facility. Astra-Glaze-SW+® glazed concrete masonry units were the clear choice.
USDA-approved for sanitary environments, Astra-Glaze-SW+ glazed concrete masonry units are mold and moisture resistant. Astra-Glaze-SW+ is the ideal solution for swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms or anywhere bacteria tends to breed. The impervious surface is exceptionally resistant to staining, abrasion, impact and chemicals and virtually impenetrable to grease, spray paint and permanent markers.
As the project also required sound control, Acousta-Wal® sound absorbing units with an Astra-Glaze-SW+ glazed finish fit the bill. A permanent solution to sound control, the Acousta-Wall/Astra-Glaze-SW+ units work much like an automobile muffler. The closed-end cavities of the different size units resonate to sound waves of different frequencies, converting them harmlessly to heat.
Available in colors, shapes and sizes you won’t find anywhere else, Astra-Glaze-SW+ offers design flexibility. The architect used a combination of Astra-Glaze-SW+ pastel blue, fire engine red, pebble, egg shell and whitman white units. Overflowing with dynamic color, the Fairland Aquatic Center is truly a masterful work of art. |
